In Broad Daylight,
featuring a
song about
autism
Voice
for Sam
and my song for cancer survivors,
Each
Moment We're Alive
Welcome to my website. My new CD, "In Broad Daylight," is finally out, to be followed by a long-awaited tour (I've always wanted to say that).
For those of you who don't know me, I'm a singer-songwriter, originally from New York City and now living in Connecticut. I've performed many types of music - country, rock, club date and even (gulp) disco. My main claim to fame, though, is that I was the lead singer for the Rolling Stone Magazine house band in 1979. Don't bother doing the math; everyone says I look way younger than my age...
Songwriting is my passion. My first album, "A Spirited Mother" was born out of my experience of motherhood and my efforts to be a model of authenticity for my daughter. The 18 songs were meant to inspire, soothe and celebrate the fact that the best interests of our children are served only by being true to ourselves.
It's a few years later, and my new collection of songs describes a journey that has aimed for the higher ground, but which has sometimes run me through the weeds. Yet the songwriter struggles to be faithful to what is True, even when the light of consciousness flashes painfully bright.
"In Broad Daylight" connotes the place where we see most vividly. Here the finest hues brilliantly mirror the deepest truths, expressed in the beauty of music.

To hear some music
At long last, In Broad Daylight is available. “I have to admit,” recounts Debra, “There were times near the end when I thought that the entire project was going to dissolve. Just when we should have been wrapping things up, there were hard drive problems, lost tracks, software problems… Do you really want the entire list? But thanks to the persistence of my professional friends in Nashville, we pulled it together, and I’m delighted with the result.”
“A Spirited Mother began as a collection of nursery songs. It morphed as I found myself writing songs for my daughter and covering tunes that had special meaning. I didn’t know what to expect that first time round. However, a year or so after A Spirited Mother was released, I found myself writing again, and I knew it was only a matter of time before these songs would become my next CD.
“Of course there was a lot of living in-between with hard life-changes (“How I Wish You Could See”) and sweet life-changes (“Wild and Sweet”). Then too there was the evolution of a new calling: writing songs for causes such as adoption (“In the Most Important Way), autism (“Voice for Sam”), and cancer survivors (“Each Moment We’re Alive”). What can I say? Nothing else. It’s all there on the CD. Now when asked to describe my singing/songwriting, I say it’s a mixture of "Cause" and "Just Because" music. I’m a seasoned singer/songwriter performing for a mature audience sparked by purpose and passion.
Deb and co-writer Jeff Fuller were the featured performers at this year's Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Candelight Vigil of Rememberance and Hope
MADD Connecticut holds a vigil annually to help survivors prepare for the holiday season. This year it was held in Harford, CT, in the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Indie Music For Life is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that produces concerts, events, showcases, and compilation CDs each year to raise funds for cancer research and for educational awareness programs on the benefits of music and laughter as therapy to cancer patients. The August Conference was their big annual event for independent women artists. Deb was asked by Tiffany Petrossi, Founder of Rockin’ Moms to be one of the three performers representing RM at the IndieGrrl Conference. “It was a great opportunity to share my work, hear what other independent artists are doing. It was a chance to network with the people who can help get my work out into the world. Want to know more about Rockin’ Moms?
